Case Study 1: Mitigating Cloud Computing Risks Due Week 4 and worth 125 points Imagine you are an Information Security Manager in a medium-sized organization. Your CIO has asked you to prepare a case analysis report and presentation on establishing internal controls in cloud computing. The CIO has seen several resources online which discuss the security risks related to Cloud based computing and storage. One that stood out was located at http://www.isaca.org/Journal/Past-Issues/2011/Volume-4/Pages/Cloud-Computing-Risk-Assessment-A-Case-Study.aspx. You are being asked to summarize the information you can find on the Internet and other sources that are available. Moving forward, the CIO wants to have a firm grasp of the benefits and risks associated with public, private, and hybrid cloud usage. There is also concern over how these systems, if they were in place, should be monitored to ensure not only proper usage, but also that none of these systems or their data have been compromised. Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you: 1. Provide a summary analysis of the most recent research that is available in this area. 2. Examine the risks and vulnerabilities associated with public clouds, private clouds, and hybrids. Include primary examples applicable from the case studies you previously reviewed. 3. Suggest key controls that organizations could implement to mitigate these risks and vulnerabilities. 4. Develop a list of IT audit tasks that address a cloud computing environment based on the results from the analysis of the case studies, the risks and vulnerabilities, and the mitigation controls. 5. This discussion will help you think about the varied research approaches and how they can be applied based on certain world views or the nature of the groups you wish to research. By choosing the best approach from the start, researchers are much more likely to get the best results to answer research questions. In your initial post, address the following: Discuss the importance of the inductive approach in qualitative research. How does this approach differ from the deductive approach in quantitative research? Explain how your philosophical worldview influence the types of research you are interested in conducting. Of the four philosophical worldviews, which do you feel most fits with your own perspective to research? How does the definition and description of research design differ from your initial perception of the concept? If you were given a research study to complete in the Ashford online learning setting, which criterion/criteria would figure most prominently in your decision about the research approach to take? For example, is there anything about the mode of online learning or the demographic of the students which would work best with a certain research approach?, UOP SOC 333 Week 1 DQ 2 Reviewing Literature NEW Check this A+ tutorial guideline at http://www.assignmentcloud.com/soc-333-uop/soc-333-week-1-dq-2-reviewing-literature-new For more classes visit http://www.assignmentcloud.com Reviewing Literature. An integral part of preparing for a research study is performing a literature review. This includes defining key terms which support your topic, searching for journal articles which support these terms, adjusting your search terms as needed, and then organizing the data you have. Based on this foundation of early research, you can specifically focus on the most important aspects of the topic chosen and can even find gaps where other researchers have not explored. This can be especially important because a research study which fills a gap is very important to developing society’s and academic’s thoughts on the subject – truly groundbreaking! In your initial post, address the following: What topic are you most interested in studying? In one sentence state the essence of this study, then write your research title. Basically, choose a research topic that interests you – is it a social problem that affects a particular group in society? Break down the elements: Who do you want to research? What is the issue? Is there a particular place or other differentiator which is useful to describe your study? Considering the research topic you selected, list five key terms related to your topic and use these terms to do a database search for journal articles on the topic in the Ashford University Library. What were the outcomes of your database search? Did you modify your search terms to achieve a successful search? Which databases were most useful to you and why? Considering the research topic you selected and the database searches you performed, list the five terms you think are important in this study and define/operationalize them. Discuss the advantages and limitations defining these terms. To help you do this, list the terms and how they specifically support and are important to your research topic, UOP SOC 333 Research Methods - Entire Course NEW Check this A+ tutorial guideline at http://www.assignmentcloud.com/soc-333-uop/soc-333-research-methods-entire-course-new For more classes visit http://www.assignmentcloud.com SOC 333 Week 1 DQ 1 Selecting Research Approaches SOC 333 Week 1 DQ 2 Reviewing Literature SOC 333 Week 2 DQ 1 Use of Theory SOC 333 Week 2 DQ 2 Writing Strategies and Ethical Considerations SOC 333 Week 3 Assignment Understanding the Value of Qualitative Research SOC 333 Week 3 DQ 1 The Introduction and Purpose Statement SOC 333 Week 3 DQ 2 Research Questions and Hypotheses SOC 333 Week 4 DQ 1 Quantitative Methods SOC 333 Week 4 DQ 2 Qualitative Methods SOC 333 Week 5 DQ 1 Mixed Methods Procedures SOC 333 Week 5 DQ 2 The Value of Research in Social Policy SOC 333 Week 5 Final Paper Academic Research Article Critique, UOP SOC 333 week 2 dq 1 use of theory new Cheak this A+ tutorial guideline at http://www.assignmentcloud.com/soc-333-uop/soc-333-week-2-dq-1-use-of-theory-new For more classes visit http://www.assignmentcloud.com http://www.assignmentcloud.com/soc-333-uop/soc-333-week-2-dq-1-use-of-theory-new, UOP SOC 333 Week 2 DQ 2 Writing Strategies and Ethical Considerations NEW Check this A+ tutorial guideline at http://www.assignmentcloud.com/soc-333-uop/soc-333-week-2-dq-2-writing-strategies-and-ethical-considerations-new For more classes visit http://www.assignmentcloud.com Writing Strategies and Ethical Considerations. This discussion will help you understand the different ways that research can be presented based on varied approaches (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method). The text also covers extensive writing tips in regard to scholarly writing which can be useful to help you reflect and develop your own scholarly writing in coursework which requires research. A second aim of the discussion is to ouch on the integral aspect of preparation for performing research; ensuring you have considered the ethical concerns and protections for your research participants or subjects. In your initial post, address the following: Differentiate between the qualitative constructivist/interpretive format and the qualitative transformative format for writing research proposals. Discuss the importance of the purpose statement and the research question in the mixed-methods research proposal. The author of the course text provides some helpful tips in scholarly writing. What tips did you find most useful to further develop your own scholarly writing in course work which requires research papers or a project? Under what circumstances would you attempt to persuade a potential study participant to consent to an interview or completing a survey? How ethical or unethical do you think this would be, and why? For example, data from participants is important to a research study. What is appropriate in influencing a participant’s desire to share information with you as a researcher, and how do ensure your approach is ethical?, UOP SOC 333 Week 3 Assignment Understanding the Value of Qualitative Research NEW Check this A+ tutorial guideline at http://www.assignmentcloud.com/soc-333-uop/soc-333-week-3-assignment-understanding-the-value-of-qualitative-research-new For more classes visit http://www.assignmentcloud.com Understanding the Value of Qualitative Research. An important part of both analyzing other’s research approaches and reflecting on your own includes understanding the positive and negative aspects of varied forms of social research and how they can influence a researcher’s stance and tone. While quantitative data can provide a general overview of the impacts of public policy and systems which manage society, qualitative data can provide specific and important information regarding the causes of this impact, such as the how, why, and who. Therefore, qualitative research can provide beneficial information to aid public policy in regards to social problems. This is especially important to know when public policy and systems create negative impacts, such as profiling, inequality, limited access, and social exclusion. It is also important to be able to recognize the stance or informed viewpoint of the researcher reporting on this information. One of the more immersive forms of social research methods available is one of the qualitative methods: ethnography. Ethnography allows a researcher to experience the impacts through living amongst the citizens who have to engage with public policy and its systems in their daily lives. The most intriguing aspects of this type of research is how the researcher maintains an ethical and neutral stance during and after the process of research and how the experience can impact their stance or underlying tone. In this assignment, you will present the benefits of ethnographical research in terms of informing public policy, as well as understanding the researcher’s role in performing and reporting on ethnographic research. You will do this through your own research of immersive ethnographical approaches (including the course text), and also through analyzing Dr. Alice Goffman’s work on inner city people of color in Philadelphia. You will be provided with reporting and reviews of her work to help fuel your own analysis of Dr. Goffman’s approach. This will help you become better at discerning what useful research is in order to appropriately inform decision-making in society. In your paper, you must address the following: Explain the researcher’s role in qualitative research. Discuss the unique issues that researchers should be concerned about in regards to their role in research, and explain how this is specifically a challenge in ethnographical research. Discuss specific actions researchers can take to ensure they retain their ethical and neutral stance in performing qualitative research and reporting their qualitative research results. Regarding Alice Goffman’s recent ethnographical work in inner-city Philadelphia, and based on what you know from the text and your own research on ethnographic immersion, determine whether or not Goffman maintained an ethical and neutral stance, and provide justification of the approach Goffman chose to take. Based on what you have been able to ascertain from Goffman’s work, discuss the information that was gained by performing a qualitative ethnography into the social problems of inner- city Philadelphia. Explain whether or not this could have been possible with a quantitative research study. Discuss what you have learned in regards to qualitative research and in particular ethnographic research in supporting decision making and the creation of public policy, UOP SOC 333 Week 3 DQ 1 The Introduction and Purpose Statement NEW Check this A+ tutorial guideline at http://www.assignmentcloud.com/soc-333-uop/soc-333-week-3-dq-1-the-introduction-and-purpose-statement-new For more classes visit http://www.assignmentcloud.com The Introduction and Purpose Statement. This discussion is focused on a very important aspect of presenting research – the introduction and purpose statement. These two elements should advise the readers of your scholarly work what you intend to share with them, as well as the importance and context of your work. In your initial post, address the following: Discuss the importance of the introduction to a study. What is the deficiency model of an introduction? Discuss how using this model when writing the introduction to a study or proposal may set the stage for the reader. Discuss the importance of framing the study within existing literature when writing the introduction. Describe the elements that constitute a good qualitative purpose statement. Discuss the importance of addressing the variables in a quantitative purpose statement. ethical or unethical do you think this would be, and why? For example, data from participants is important to a research study. The importance of a good research question or hypothesis cannot be overstated. It is integral to a research study and ensures the researcher is focused on a measurable target for the success of the research results. It is also ensures that the research objective is clearly defined and that the target is specifically measureable. Understanding of the importance of this area is integral to good research and ensures that a research project can be efficiently executed and is valuable to develop academic thought on societal concerns. In your initial post, address the following: Discuss why you think the research questions and hypothesis may be considered signposts in research. Select the three factors that you think may be the most important considerations when writing qualitative research questions. Justify your choices. Why do you think an examination of the variables is important when writing the research questions and hypothesis in a quantitative study? Which three characteristics do you think will be most important in your research? Justify your choices. Why do you think the researcher is important when conducting qualitative research? What do you perceive is the most important role of gatekeepers in qualitative research? Explain. Discuss the relative merits of using manual as opposed to computer-based coding when completing qualitative data analysis. After reading about Alice Goffman’s work and when working on Week Three’s assignment, “Understanding the Value of Qualitative Research” consider the ”world” of a social issue or social group that you would like to research as an immersive ethnographer. What world would you choose to immerse yourself in? What specific issue would you research? And what would you hope to gain from the experience? Do you feel you would have challenges maintaining researcher separation with becoming too immersed in that world?, UOP SOC 333 Week 5 DQ 1 Mixed Methods Procedures NEW Check this A+ tutorial guideline at http://www.assignmentcloud.com/soc-333-uop/soc-333-week-5-dq-1-mixed-methods-procedures-new For more classes visit http://www.assignmentcloud.com Mixed Methods Procedures. Mixed methods approaches allow researchers to use the benefits of quantitative research with the benefits of qualitative research to find the broadest view of the issues involved in the research. Quantitative research is excellent in obtaining an overall view of the issues generally, and qualitative approaches can enhance this view by providing the detail of how individuals within these issues deal with them day to day. So quantitative can provide the scope and background and qualitative can provide the details and depth of the issue. However, applying mixed methods requires a process and this discussion will support you in understanding the unique application of mixed methods in research. In your initial post, address the following: Discuss your perception of mixed methods approach and compare it to the types of mixed methods designs presented. Look back on your initial response to Week One’s discussion, “Selecting Research Approaches.” Based on the research topic you chose for that discussion, which mixed methods design would best accommodate your needs, and why? How useful do you find the advanced mixed methods designs mentioned in Chapter 10? Justify your answer. Chapter 10 gives six factors considered important when choosing mixed methods design. Organize these six factors by order of importance based on your research. The final assignment for this course is an academic research article critique. The purpose of the critique is to ensure that you know how to read and critically assess research for use in your own research, to understand social problems in society, support decision making in public policy, or to influence one’s own individual research approaches. Reading and critically analyzing academic research reported in journal articles is an important part of learning and applying scholarly research for multiple applications within your discipline. Through the first four weeks of this course, you have become more familiar with the various components of research design. For this final assignment, read and critically review one of the journal articles provided in the list by discipline (below). Most of the dealers have been leaving the casino to work at other casinos in the area, even though JC’s Casino pays better than their local competition. On several exit interviews, many of the dealers have cited the pit boss, Joe, as being “toxic, overbearing, evil, and incompetent.” Joe is the casino owner’s step-son and the HR director, Tom Sneed, is afraid to confront the owner. Among the housekeeping staff, there has been an above normal rate of absenteeism and high turnover of rooms. Many of the managers who work in accounting, payroll, and other departments have had to ask their full-time employees to help cover for housekeeping by cleaning rooms periodically. Because of this problem, the hotel has had to adjust their check in times from 3 p.m. (the industry standard) to 6 p.m. Customers have arrived earlier and the hotel has had to accommodate them by creating a room to hold luggage. They have also had to hire staff to man the luggage room. The director of housekeeping, Andrew Keehn, has been working hard to add more staff but he states “good help is hard to find.” The housekeeper’s current hourly wage is comparable to other casinos in the area but because of the staffing shortage, the housekeepers have to clean more rooms per day than their counterparts. The casino owner only knows that there are some issues with keeping the dealers and that some customers were upset because they had to wait to check in. You have been hired for a quick fix and your suggestions were needed yesterday. Write a 1,400- to 1,700-word paper in which you identify each issue and make recommendations to JC, the casino president, on how to improve overall retention. What the scenario does not provide, you can create. Be sure to include the following in your assessment: • Evaluate at least two work motivation theories and how they can be applied in order to improve employee recruitment and retention at JC’s Casino. • Examine possible occupational stressors that are negatively influencing recruitment and retention. What improvements would you suggest to alleviate these stressors? • Examine the role of job satisfaction and its influence on retention at the casino. Provide recommendations for improving job satisfaction of the employees and how that can play a part in successfully improving retention. • Discuss counterproductive employee behavior occurring at the casino. What suggestions would you make to reduce the counterproductive behavior and increase productive employee behavior? Include at least three references. Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
